ProMat 2023: A Designer’s Perspective

Visiting ProMat was an exciting and inspiring experience. I was thrilled to see how the MHI team utilized our brand package for the “Touch the Future” theme in big ways. The bold green and black color palette was eye-catching and energizing and was brought to life with great motion graphics. This was my first tradeshow experience, so the sheer number of people and exhibits was almost overwhelming but I enjoyed walking the floor and chatting with vendors.

It was really interesting to learn about niche markets and innovations in the supply chain industry. As a graphic designer, part of the expo I loved the most was absorbing all of the interesting-looking brands and seeing what sort of visual design trends are happening in this sector of technology. It was fascinating to see the creativity, planning, and effort involved in setting up booths in attention-grabbing ways while utilizing space efficiently.

A highlight from my time at the show was at the Agility Robotics booth seeing “Digit” in action—a humanoid robot that can carry out mundane tasks in warehouses. I was starstruck as I sat in on a talk with Ron Howard and was inspired by the knowledge and stories he shared from his decades in the film industry (also expanded my movie watchlist! Looking forward to seeing his recent films Thirteen Lives and We Feed People). Wrapping the evening up with a dry and hilarious performance by Nate Bargatze was the icing on the cake.
